Northern Samar to hold job fair on Labor Day

CATARMAN, Northern Samar (PIA) – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Northern Samar will hold three simultaneous activities and a series of mini events on April 30 at Catarman Freedom Park. 

This is in line with the observance of 122nd Labor Day with the theme: “Sa Bagong Pilipinas: Manggagawang Pilipino, Kabalikat at Kasama sa Pag Asenso.” 

DOLE Provincial Head Primo Guarin shared that they will conduct a Job  Fair, Kadiwa ng Pangulo Exhibit and TUPAD pay-out on the said date. This will be a one-stop services open for everyone who are seeking job opportunities

Twenty nine private establishments confirmed their participation. DOLE targeted a 20 percent  hiring rate from the attendees and applicants.

Meanwhile, 22 exhibitors will showcase various agricultural produce, processed goods, delicacies, and other local products in the province.

TUPAD (Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers) will cater to 270 identified beneficiaries who will  receive an amount equivalent to 10 days work times the minimum wage of the province.

Erwin Barbarona, labor employment officer also shared that aside from the three main events, mini-programs will follow such as the Child-Labor prevention and elimination program dubbed as “Project Angel Tree” and an orientation on Kasambahay Law. Barbarona also shared that the program is in partnership with the Northern Samar Provincial Government and  Local Government Unit of Catarman, national line agencies specifically the local PESO, DA, TESDA, SSS, PhilHealth, PAG-IBIG, PSA, PNP, among others.

Alvin Mañoso, 26, a senior high school graduate from Catarman, who acquired training skills through TESDA as a welder, expressed his interest to join the job fair.

“I cannot go and proceed to college because of my limitations, I learned some skills from TESDA, thus, if given the opportunity, I will take this chance, I will apply for any work available based on my knowledge and capacity,” Mañoso said (ADiaz/PIA-Northern Samar)
