Construction industry inks MOA with TESDA Leyte

TACLOBAN CITY (PIA) — Members of the Philippine Constructors Association (PCA) - Leyte Chapter signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Leyte Provincial Office, formally establishing the province-wide collaboration between the construction industry and technical vocational education and training (TVET).

The partnership is geared towards an area-based, demand-driven system of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to create and implement, involving workers, employers, educational institutions, and the government.

The partnership will attempt to address the job skills mismatch and unemployment by aligning strategic TVET policy reforms with the demands of the construction sector, intending to produce a skilled, competent, and employable Filipino workforce.

PCA reaffirmed its support for improving skills development in the construction sector and expressed excitement about the partnership.

“We are committed to undertaking the challenges that the construction sector faces, including job skills mismatch, training, certification, trainers and would-be trainers and assessors, and skills anticipation. This is demonstrated by our cooperation, as outlined in the MOA,” Efren G. Canabe, president of the association, said.

Meanwhile, TESDA Leyte Provincial Director Vivian E. Abueva highlighted that the partnership endeavors of TESDA are geared towards a more responsive and relevant TVET in the country.

“The general objective of TESDA’s partnership with the different industries is to undertake institutional reforms and forge stronger alliances between TVET key players and the industry, company, or firm,” said Abueva.

TESDA Leyte has recorded 26 forged MOAs with various private industry companies in the sectors of construction, tourism, electrical and electronics, visual arts, automotive, and land transportation, and one with the 804th Community Defense Center, Regional Community Defense Group, Reserve Command, Philippine Army.
