Mass blood donation to Surigaonons set July 24

Surigao City (23 July) -- In line with the celebration of Blood Donor's Month this July, a Regional Mass Blood Donation Showcase will be conducted by the Surigao City Health Office on July 24, 2008 at the Barangay Canlanipa Covered Court, Surigao City.

Carrying the theme, "Once is not enough, Donate blood regularly," the activity aims to create wider awareness on the importance of voluntary unpaid blood donation and encourage more people to become regular donors.

National Voluntary Blood Services Program (NVBSP) Regional Medical Coordinator Dr. Ernesto Pareja, CHD Regional Director Dr. Leonita Gorgolon and City Mayor Alfonso Casurra are expected to grace the said event.

The yearly celebration of the Blood Donor's Month also seeks to increase awareness for the use of safe blood in order to save lives, specifically women during and after childbirth.

It maybe recalled, the month of July has been declared as Blood Donor's Month pursuant to Republic Act 7719 otherwise known as "Blood Services Act of 1994". (PIA-Surigao del Norte) [top]
