What’s up, Gov?: PCO launches free newspaper to keep public informed

The Philippine Gazette (PCO-BCS)

DO you feel adrift in a sea of government policies, issuances, and programs?

Fear not! The Marcos administration has launched a lifeboat – The Philippine Gazette, a free newspaper dedicated to keeping you informed about their plans and progress toward a Bagong Pilipinas.

This isn't just any newsletter; it's a trusted bridge between the government and the people.

An initiative of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), and its attached agency, the Bureau of Communications Services – under Secretary Cheloy Garafil, think of the Gazette as your direct line to Malacañang, bringing you the latest happenings and updates on key initiatives, from infrastructure projects to economic reforms.

The Philippine Gazette, a free newspaper that will serve as a bridge to deliver to Filipinos information about the programs and projects of the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.,” the PCO said in a statement during its recent launch.

But why a newspaper in the digital age?

The first reason is simple: accessibility. Not everyone has a smartphone or steady internet access. The Philippine Gazette bridges this gap – initially reaching people in selected areas, the Gazette is now being distributed in many places where the public converges like the LRT and MRT terminals, airports and seaports among other places and soon nationwide through the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).

"The stories are more curated that focus on programs or milestones of the government. Although the format is familiar to the public, which is in tabloid form, the arrangement of the contents and the contents themselves are for information sharing and awareness," said Assistant Secretary Francisco P. Rodriguez III, director of the BCS.

The BCS is the agency in-charge of developing and providing communications services relating to policy formulation, communications planning, project development, research and evaluation, and coordination of information planning within the framework of the overall thrust and priorities of the national development plan.

What's in it for you?

The second reason is about having clear and concise explanations of government policies. No more bureaucratic jargon! The Gazette translates complex initiatives into everyday language, empowering you to understand how they impact your life.

The third, is being informed of progress updates on key projects that can affect you. See how the "Build, Better, More" program is unfolding, or track the development of new agricultural or health initiatives.

The fourth, a platform for your voice. The Gazette isn't just one-way communication. Send in your questions, concerns, and suggestions, and see them addressed in future editions.

And the fifth, the newspaper is more than just news, The Philippine Gazette is a tool for empowerment. It's your chance to stay informed, engage with your government, and hold them accountable.

Grab your free copy today at select LRT stations, train terminals, and major transportation hubs in Metro Manila. It is also available in Calabarzon and in Region 1, and soon in other parts of the country.

Spread the word! Let every Bagong Pilipino know that they have a seat at the table, a voice in shaping the future of the nation.

Remember, an informed electorate is a powerful electorate. With The Philippine Gazette in your hands, you're no longer just a spectator; you're an active participant in building a better Philippines.
