Female police officers told: ‘Love yourself first’

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna (PIA) -- Women must love themselves first and find a supportive network with whom they can openly share their problems and concerns.

An adviser for the Police Regional Office Region 4-A (PRO 4A) Officers Ladies Club made this call to female police officers, as well as the wives and partners of law enforcers.

Last March 6, the Police Regional Office Calabarzon, in collaboration with the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) regional office, kicked off Women’s Month celebration as a tribute to the female force of Calabarzon police.

“Female officers should find a support system, seek counsel, and have someone to share their troubles with,” said PRO 4A Officers Ladies Club adviser, Mary June Lucas.

The PRO 4A Officers Ladies Club is a constituent organization of PRO 4A, consisting of female police officers and spouses of uniformed personnel.

Lucas, wife of Calabarzon Police Regional Director, Brig. Gen. Kenneth Paul Lucas, highlighted that there are cases where female police officers are also not spared from domestic abuse, and empowers women to learn how to stand for themselves and protect their loved ones.

“Abuse among women is transcendent. It happens everywhere, regardless of your status in life. All women from all walks of life may suffer from the same fate,”

Lucas added: “We must learn to stand up for ourselves and find our voices. Be a good role model for your children, and never tolerate any form of abuse from anyone. Fight not only for yourself but also for your loved ones,”

Despite their roles as mothers, wives, and partners, Lucas encouraged women to strive towards becoming the best version of themselves and to prioritize their own well-being along that of their children.

“Love yourself first. Do what makes you happy and take care of yourself. How can you run on an empty tank? The only person with whom you would spend your entire life is yourself, you alone,” Lucas urged women officers.

This year’s Women’s Month celebration of NAPOLCOM honored 40 female PNP personnel, 10 spouses of police personnel who were killed or injured in action, and 40 personnel of the NAPOLCOM. (PB/PIA-4A)
