The ‘K’ in Kalayaan: Tres Barrios festival aims to build strong community in Laguna

The first Tres Barrios Festival in the town of Kalayaan in Laguna will showcase the town’s culture and history through its “Kamalayan sa Kasaysayan at Kultura ng Kalayaan” program--better known as the “KKK ng Kalayaan”.

For its first edition, the Tres Barrios Festival aims to build a strong sense of community and collaboration towards the continuous growth and prosperity of their town.

Named after the three barangays Longos, San Juan, and San Antonio—making Kalayaan the smallest town in the entire province—the Tres Barrios festival will showcase their culture and history using the “KKK ng Kalayaan” platform.

“Here at the Tres Barrios festival, you will see the culture of each barangay that will be the highlight of our celebration this year,” said Herben Dela Paz, Tourism Officer and Local Youth Development Officer in an interview with the Philippine Information Agency’s Usapang PIA radio program.

To add more to its rich history, Dela Paz said Kalayaan, then known as Longos, is the oldest town in Philippine history.

A brainchild of the history teachers from San Juan National High School, the KKK program aims to help the youth rediscover the rich history of their town.

Dela Paz added: “One of our programs to be launched is KKK of Kalayaan which means Awareness of the History and Culture of Freedom [Kamalayan sa Kasaysayan at Kultura] initiated by San Juan National High School history teachers. This will help the youth in our town to discover our history. After all, Kalayaan is one of the youngest towns based on law.”

The municipal government will also launch a historical symposium during the KKK of Kalayaan to foster greater appreciation and understanding of local heritage among the youth.

Moreso, KKK of Kalayaan serves as a gateway to a deeper understanding of their town’s role in Philippine history, fostering a sense of national pride and unity while encouraging continued exploration and dialogue about the country's rich and diverse past.

“KKK of Kalayaan will provide a space or a path for us to discover more in the history of our country.”

Other programs during the festival are Discuento Caravan, Street Dancing Competition, Buntis Congress, Blood Letting program, Medical Mission, Awards Night, Cultural Night,   Miss Gay Kalayaan, Color run, Foam Party and Coronation Night for Mr. and Ms. Kalayaan 2024.

The Tres Barrios Festival will take place from March 18 to 23. (AM/PIA-4A)
