The new tourist destination in Cagayan

Mingay Beach Resort, an LGU-owned and operated destination is another must-visit tourist destination in Cagayan.

In time for summer, another must-see destination is unveiled to the public–the newly discovered paradise, Mingay Beach in Santa Praxedes, Cagayan.

This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of involved parties to foster responsible and sustainable tourism practices, ensuring that Mingay Beach Resort continues to thrive as a premier destination while safeguarding the interests of the local community and environment.

Town mayor Esterlina Aguinaldo, during the soft opening of the beach resort, said tourists can now explore the beach, enjoy camping, and explore their new destination but with observance of responsible and sustainable tourism.

After more than a year of preparation, finally, the local government unit (LGU) here has laid everything prior to its opening.

Mayor Aguinaldo said the LGU has really allotted funds for the development and promotion of this project in addition to the existing tourism destinations here including the famous Portbaga Falls, the Makatel Falls, the Santa Praxedes View Deck, the Kimmansir Beach among others.

At present, the development of Mingay Beach has provided livelihood and employment to local residents who are now manning the sites or working as tourist guides assistants, and boat operators, among others.

Since most tourists love to stay overnight or two at beautiful beaches, the LGU here has built three teepee houses with complete amenities like bedding and also has its own comfort rooms.

There’s also a separate area for campers who love to put up their own tents as well as arrange their own set of picnic tables, and swings among others.

Enjoy exclusive escapade with friends. It's between you and friends - no calls, no internet.

The beach, which is a cove, offers a different experience because it's not just the cool and calming water that arouses your appreciation of creation but how the town is endowed with hundreds of trees around.

The tourism office here strictly implements prebooking to give tourists the best experience and service. The teepee house that can accommodate three guests costs P1,500 plus another P500 for an extra bed. Tent pitching is very minimal as it only costs P100, rent a tent for P200, life vest rent for P50, picnic tables for P250 per day or P300 overnight use, boat tour for P1,500 good for five guests.

While Santa Praxedes is a small town, it is one of the competitive towns in the province known to have institutionalized its yearly  Sarakat and Gamet festivals.

In 2018, the town was also declared a drug-cleared municipality by the Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug-Clearing Operations after eight of its barangays were declared drug-cleared while two others were drug-free barangays.

It was also declared insurgency-cleared by the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC).

Also, it was one of the towns in the province that staged one of the best Christmas Village for the last two years and last year’s Disney-themed Plaza was a crowd-gathered. (GVB/PIA Region 2)
