The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is using digital tools to improve its services.

Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian is leading changes to modernize social welfare by going digital.

In the past, social welfare had a lot of paperwork and slow processes. But now, the DSWD is training staff on digital business intelligence tools like Tableau. This data software can make services more accessible, transparent and better for Filipinos in need.

"In today's world, we must use digital tools to progress," said Gatchalian. "Our goal is to give our teams the skills to provide social welfare services that are easier to access, more transparent, and meet the needs of Filipinos."

At the heart of this transformative process lies Tableau, a cutting-edge business intelligence tool that holds the promise of revolutionizing how the agency operates.

The recent 5-day Tableau training taught DSWD staff how to work with data and information in new ways.

Assistant Secretary Julius Gorospe said this will allow offices to make better decisions using real-time data, streamline operations, and deliver outstanding service.

"Through the mastery of business intelligence tools, our offices can harness real-time data to steer superior decisions, streamline operations, and provide unparalleled service to our beneficiaries," Gorospe said.

Christian Joseph Regunay, the Director of DSWD's Information and Communications Technology Management, emphasized that this initiative is rooted in a commitment to transparency and accountability towards those they serve.

"It's not just about learning a tool; it's about imbuing our ethos with the spirit of data-driven governance," Regunay said.

The training aligns with Gatchalian's vision of a digitally-capable department adapting to public service needs.

Industry experts from Quandantics and Tableau led the training, sharing insights to uplift participants' data skills.

As the DSWD embraces digital empowerment, it brings new hope of delivering more accessible and inclusive social welfare for all Filipinos. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
