Keeping cool, having fun under La Union’s sun

As the summer season continues to sear over the country, tourists and adventurers alike visit the picturesque beaches of La Union to get a respite from the sun and get a taste of provincial living.

Given its strategic location on the west coast of Luzon, La Union is known as a surfing capital, a haven of beaches stretching miles upon miles of relaxing sandy shores that serve as a must-go destination for those looking for summer fun.

Waves offer surf riding

La Union’s Instagram-worthy coastline offers consistently swelling waves, perfect for surfers looking for a place of thrill.

The beach in Barangay Urbiztondo in San Juan, La Union has become a surfing melting pot for Filipinos and foreigners alike, with people consistently drawn to the wonders of what the beach offers.

Those wary of trying their hand at surfing can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that expert instructors are able and ready to help and assist those looking to learn surfing.

Beaches go beyond surfing

More than just a place dedicated solely to surfing, La Union’s beaches offer a relaxing spot for those looking for calm and tranquility.

La Union’s sandy shores have also been known as a lounging spot for a quick nap and for a quick read of tourists’ favorite books.

Groups can bring their sports to the beaches too, with frisbee and beach volleyball being fun alternatives for people visiting the province.

Sunsets and chill vibes

Sunsets in La Union don’t stop the cool and fun, as nighttime presents other opportunities for enjoyment and relaxation, such as through music and good food.

La Union, specifically San Juan town, boasts beachfront hotels, restaurants, and bars for people looking to unwind while watching the sunset to signal the end of another day.

Visitors can grab their favorite drink in these awesome places, pick their favorite food from a variety of choices, sit back, and enjoy a respite from the summer heat.

Wreyn Delos Reyes, a 26-year-old tourist from Cubao, Quezon City, says that she frequents La Union because of the myriad of relaxing options it offers, soaking everything from beaches to restaurants.

“I’m from Manila and I have seen different hangouts. But it is different in La Union because of its coastline, beaches, food, and other tourist sites that is why I visit this place always,” Delos Reyes said.

More than the shores

Although La Union is known foremost for its beaches, its tourism potential does not stop there, thanks to its mountainous terrain and breathtaking waterfalls.

These panoramic views are scattered from the province’s northernmost tip in Sudipen town to its southernmost tip in the municipality of Rosario, giving people travel options wherever they may be in the province.

Clean and sustainable tourism

Given its reputation as a tourism hotspot, the provincial government of La Union and its 20 city and municipal local governments impart the importance of responsible tourism to its people and visitors.

Cleaning wastes ensures the preservation of La Union’s tourist sites so they can be enjoyed by more people in the foreseeable future.
Different government and non-government organizations have also led cleanup drives, especially along beach shores to clean waste and maintain the province’s beauty and allure.

Information dissemination campaigns through social media have also been conducted to widen knowledge on cleanup efforts and what regular people can do to help.

Sun’s out, fun and thrills’ out

As the summer season continues to shine bright, fun and thrilling activities in La Union continue to shine even brighter.

Keeping cool amidst the scorching heat of summer has never been more fun and cool in La Union.

So whether your thrill is visiting the beach and enjoying its tranquility or visiting falls and other hidden natural gems, the province has what thrill seekers look for.
