Dagupan City library empowers students with digital resources

In the evolving landscape of education, the concept of libraries has transcended traditional brick-and-mortar form to become a pocket-sized wonder accessible at the tap of a screen.

From the laborious task of scouring through shelves to the convenience of simply clicking and scrolling, technology has revolutionized how students in Dagupan City access educational resources.

At the forefront of this digital transformation are e-libraries provided by the National Library of the Philippines.

Among these platforms, World Book Online emerges as a cornerstone of modern learning, offering students the flexibility to engage with coursework and educational materials anytime, anywhere.

Marilyn Caguioa, the public librarian of Dagupan City, expressed appreciation for the convenience of this digital tool, highlighting that the Dagupan City government has been subscribing to World Book Online since 2019.

"With World Book Online, students can access the materials they need directly from their phones, eliminating the burden of carrying heavy books," she said.

Founded in 1917, World Book, Inc. has established itself as a reliable source of research materials dedicated to supporting educators, students, and parents in both physical and virtual learning environments.

Aligned with the spirit of National Literature Month, the Dagupan City Library reaffirms its commitment to promoting reading and literature within the community.

Through innovative programs focusing on digital literacy, storytelling, and livelihood training, the library actively cultivates a culture of literacy and critical thinking.

Caguioa encourages young people to rediscover the joys of reading, citing its benefits in enhancing memory and analytical skills.

"Embrace the digital age of learning and discovery," she urges.

She added, "With resources like World Book Online at our fingertips, we possess the tools to unlock endless possibilities for education and growth."

Sharing John Paul Serraon's experience, a college student residing in Barangay Tapuac, Dagupan City, the online library's extensive collection, catering to all age groups, sparked his interest.

"It's incredibly beneficial for us students, as the e-library provides informative books that support our studies, along with engaging e-books spanning contemporary fiction genres, making reading both educational and enjoyable,” Serraon told the Philippine Information Agency.
