DTI-Palawan sees service and retail as top business registrants in 2024

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Palawan expects the retail and service sectors to top business name renewals and registrations in 2024 as a result of the recovered economy.

Business name registration officer Joyce Superio said the department targets hitting over 7,000 renewals and registrations in 2024 through walk-ins and online transactions.

DTI also recorded the two sectors as the top business registrants in 2022 and 2023.

“Sa retail ay nandon ang trading, wholesale, and retail. Sa services ay nandon ang tourism, kasama ang restaurants, ‘yon ang businesses natin ngayon na maraming nagri-register,” she said.

Business owners with micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) may do their transactions through the Business Name Registration System Next Generation (BNRS Next Gen), which has been fully operational since August 2023.

Superio explained that the system had to undergo emergency system management on Wednesday morning, January 3, due to the heavy traffic of online transactions, which was resolved within the day.

Superio acknowledges that there will be chances of slow processing responses due to the number of users.

“May dinagdag na for verification ng email, naayos naman agad ng ating developer. Meron pa rin (chances to encounter system problems again), siguro sa dami ng gumagamit ng system ay minsan bumabagal din,” she added.

Entrepreneurs are also observed to utilize other means of transactions, such as calling for inquiries, which helps limit the number of walk-ins in DTI.

There are also computers inside the office designed for the use of clients to help them speed up transactions through the online system. The renewal and registration can also be accommodated through the Business One-Stop Shop (BOSS) at towns and the New Green City Hall Building.

The department is positive that the DTI Negosyo Centers and BNRS Next Gen will help locals, particularly from island towns, transact at their own place instead of traveling to Puerto Princesa City. (RG/PIA Mimaropa - Palawan)
