MANILA, (PIA) -- In a remarkable display of unity and environmental stewardship, members of various government agencies, private organizations, and dedicated volunteers joined forces for a clean-up activity along the picturesque shores of Baseco Beach in Manila Bay. This momentous event marked the launch of the 'Makiisa sa Kalinga at Inisyatiba Para Sa Malinis na Bayan' (KALINISAN) Program on Saturday, January 6.

The Kalinisan Program, a visionary convergence initiative spearheaded by the Office of the President and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), stands as a beacon of hope for a cleaner, healthier environment.

Its core objective is to consolidate efforts from diverse sectors, fostering a collective commitment to a safe and vibrant ecosystem. At the heart of the program lies the empowerment of local government units and the activation of community participation, rooted in the cherished Filipino tradition of bayanihan.

The launch was led by DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairperson Atty. Don Artes, and DILG-NCR Regional Director Maria Lourdes Agustin, CESO III.

The shores of Baseco Beach became a canvas for positive change as representatives from several government agencies, private groups, and enthusiastic volunteers collaborated seamlessly. Armed with a shared vision of environmental sustainability, these diverse entities worked hand in hand, embodying the spirit of bayanihan – a collective effort towards a common goal.

The Kalinisan Program's overarching mission is to create a healthier and safer environment for all. By empowering local government units, the initiative aims to establish sustainable practices that resonate with the community. Through the active engagement of citizens, the program seeks to instill a sense of responsibility towards the preservation of natural resources.

At the heart of the Kalinisan Program is the age-old tradition of bayanihan, a concept deeply ingrained in Filipino culture. The program acknowledges the strength that lies in collective action, encouraging communities to actively participate in the preservation of their surroundings. Through this initiative, the Office of the President endeavors to create a ripple effect of positive change, inspiring communities to take ownership of their environmental legacy.

The launch of the Kalinisan Program at Baseco Beach sends a powerful message – a testament to what can be achieved when diverse stakeholders unite for a common cause.
