37 cruise ships set to make port call in Mimaropa

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) -- A total of 37 cruise ships are set to make port calls in the Mimaropa region this year.

The expected influx of 40,000 passengers and crew members is expected to boost tourism and will have a substantial impact on the region’s economy.

The Mimaropa region is composed of the provinces of Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan. The provinces are renowned for its pristine beaches, diverse marine life, and cultural attractions. The forthcoming cruise visits promise to showcase the region's natural beauty and rich heritage to a global audience.

Scheduled over the next few months, the cruise calls are part of a strategic initiative to promote tourism and economic growth in Mimaropa. As of January 08, 2024, the schedule of cruise calls in Mimaropa comprises of 28 cruise calls in Puerto Princesa City, Coron, El Nido, and Balabac Islands in the province of Palawan.

Meanwhile, Occidental Mindoro have 4 scheduled cruise calls while the province of Romblon currently has 3. Marinduque has 2 cruise calls scheduled for 2024.

One of the key benefits of the upcoming cruise calls is the potential for a substantial economic boost. The influx of tourists is expected to stimulate various sectors, including hospitality, transportation, local businesses, and tour operators. This surge in economic activity is particularly welcome given the challenges faced by many regions globally in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to economic advantages, the cruise calls are expected to generate employment opportunities for the local workforce. Temporary jobs in hospitality, transportation, and tourism-related services will contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the region.

Tourism officials in Mimaropa are optimistic about the long-term impact of these cruise calls, envisioning them as a stepping stone for the region to become a sought-after destination in the global cruise industry.

As Mimaropa eagerly prepares to welcome these 37 cruise calls, the region is poised for a period of growth and increased visibility on the global tourism stage. (JJGS/PIA MIMAROPA)
