OPAPRU unveils ‘Peace: Bawat Buhay Mahalaga’ slogan, propels peace agenda in 2023

QUEZON CITY (PIA) -- The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) unveiled its poignant new slogan, ‘Peace: Bawat Buhay Mahalaga’ (Peace: Every Life Matters), alongside a series of remarkable peace milestones achieved in 2023.

The slogan, which was launched during the first in-person New Year’s Call and General Assembly for 2024 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), solidifies OPAPRU’s goal and its dedication to nurturing a culture of peace that values the sanctity of every individual's life.

Amidst this proclamation, OPAPRU also commemorated its significant strides in the pursuit of peace and unity across the nation:

Under the auspices of the Bangsamoro peace process, the Bangsamoro Parliament accomplished a monumental feat by enacting five priority codes. These legislative measures are poised to uplift the socioeconomic conditions of the region and spur economic growth, fostering hope and progress for its people.

The successful completion of the third phase of decommissioning Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) combatants stands as a testament to the gradual demilitarization process, signaling a shift towards civilian lives free from conflict and strife.

In collaboration with provincial local government units, OPAPRU championed the Local Peace Engagement efforts and its Transformation Program. These initiatives have been pivotal in guiding former rebels toward reintegration into mainstream society, equipping them to lead peaceful and productive civilian lives.

Advancing peace processes with the Cordillera Bodong Administration-Cordillera People’s Liberation Army (CBA-CPLA) and KAPATIRAN, the government made significant strides through the implementation of the Normalization Program. This program has empowered members and their families to enhance their socioeconomic well-being, fostering stability and growth in these regions.

Simultaneously, OPAPRU's impactful interventions through the Social Healing and Peacebuilding Program (SHAPE) and the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan Program (PAMANA) have fostered social cohesion and ushered in vital socioeconomic projects across targeted areas throughout the country.

In a symbolic statement at the slogan launch, OPAPRU Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr. emphasized the profound significance of this new slogan, emphasizing the irreplaceable value of each life in the pursuit of peace. This “Peace: Bawat BuhayMahalaga” embodies the core principles of inclusivity and compassion that underscore OPAPRU's mission towards a harmonious society.

OPAPRU remains steadfast in its resolve, harnessing collective efforts to pave the way for a nation where peace is not just a dream but an enduring reality. (PIA-NCR)
