DOLE briefs graduating students on what lies ahead in the labor market

ODIONGAN, Romblon (PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Romblon conducted a career orientation to over a thousand senior college students who are set to graduate this school year to give them a heads up on what to expect when they join the nation's labor force.

A total of 1,362 students of the Romblon State University participated in the event which was organized under the DOLE's Career Development Support Program.

The students where briefed on the rights, roles, and responsibilities of workers as well as rights and expections of their potential employers.

DOLE Romblon senior labor and emplyoment officer, Christine Espinosa, discussed the laws governing rights and obligations of employees and employers under the Labor Code of the Philippines.

Faye Marie Fetalco, an Agriculture and Biosystems Engineering student expressed her gratitude to both DOLE and RSU for facilitation actvities that bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world scenarios.

“Learning the basics of labor laws and other employment opportunities is an avenue for us to be mindful of our rights as jobseekers or employees someday. We can’t be easily manipulated by employers if we are equipped with a strong foundation of labor standards," Fetalco said. (PJF/PIA Mimaropa - Romblon)
