VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) — The Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Office (ISPPO) is working on establishing a tourist police unit to maintain peace and order during the upcoming Longganisa Festival of the city and upcoming festivals in the province.

PCOL Darnell Dulnuan, acting provincial director of the ISPPO, said “In coordination with the city government of Vigan and partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT), we formed a prototype of the unit to help ascertain the public’s safety and security.”

He explained, “The DOT will help us train them to become competent in handling concerns and ensuring the security of the tourists. They will equip our police with the skills necessary for the task.”

Dulnuan added, “Naihanda na natin ang security plan natin para dito sa Longganisa Festival at sa susunod na activity which is the Ilocos Sur Festival na magtatagal ng 18 to 19 days. Lahat ito pinaghahandaan natin, all in all halos 30 days itong magkasunod na activities.”

(We have prepared the security plan for this Longganisa Festival, and the next activity, the Ilocos Sur Festival, which will be held for 18 to 19 days. We are gearing up for this month-long series of activities.)

“We are doing this in close coordination with the city government and the provincial government, not just the local government units, we are also working with our law enforcement partners to assist us in these events,” he said.

The 2024 Ilocos Sur Festival activities will kick off after the Vigan Longganisa Festival which will start on January 18 and will end on the 27th. (JCR/AMB/ATV/PIA Ilocos Sur)
