10,000 jobs up for grabs when Naga economic zone starts operating

NAGA CITY, Camarines Sur (PIA) – About 10,000 new jobs are expected to be created from the new economic zone that was approved by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. last July 25.

Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion announced that the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) is planning to organize a trade mission at the beginning of this year to invite potential investors to establish their businesses at the Naga City Industrial Park (NCIP).

This industrial zone, which spans over 25 hectares of land in Uptown Carolina,  will serve as a hub for exporting products.

“I want to express my gratitude to Peza Director-General Tereso Panga for his support. Once it is fully operational, the NCIP has the potential to create at least 10,000 jobs in the Pacol-Carolina area. Additionally, it may also have downstream benefits and attract suppliers to the area,” Legacion said in his state of the city speech in December.

Legacion said the industrial park may put up eight factories following the required factory size of prime locator Fuji Industries Naga Corp.. Aside from that, the industrial park will host about 16 business establishments as well as public facilities such as public transport terminal, cargo terminal, power sub-station, water treatment facility, and gasoline station.

The news that multiple companies are considering a location within the industrial park has left many residents excited at the prospect of more employment opportunities.

“It's heart-warming because many people who are looking for work to help their families can secure some of the 10,000 jobs brought about by the NCIP,” said Dhan Michael Oropesa.

Tricia Barcebal echoed his sentiment. Said she: “I am so glad that the Naga City government has established an infrastructure that will help the people of Naga. That will beef up the strength of the economy and tourism in Naga.”

Following the President’s signing of Proclamation 299 on July 25, 2023, the Investment and Tourism Promotions Office and the Naga City Investment Board conducted a series of business forums.

Different current and potential stakeholders, developers, locators, and a diverse range of ecosystem support providers participated in the forums to establish “comprehensive operational guidelines, applications and procedures of future investments.” (PIA 5/Camarines Sur)
