ODIONGAN, Romblon (PIA) -- The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Romblon, in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), is conducting mandatory training for all Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) treasurers in the province.

The training, which commenced on Monday, is designed to equip the newly-appointed SK treasurers with essential skills in financial management. 

A total of 87 SK treasurers are actively participating in the Bookkeeping NC III course in Odiongan town, undergoing a 20-day comprehensive training.

Rochelle Zulueta, information officer of TESDA Romblon, said that this is the initial batch, with the objective of extending the training to all SK treasurers and, if feasible, barangay treasurers as well.

However, Sibuyan island, being a Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area (GIDA), is conducting a separate training.

According to the provisions of the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015 and the guidelines from the National Youth Commission, it is mandatory for Sanggunian Kabataan treasurers to undergo TESDA Bookkeeping Training before assuming their roles.

In a statement, DILG Romblon emphasized that the knowledge acquired from the training is crucial in developing competencies necessary for the effective discharge of duties within the Sanggunian Kabataan framework.

"Your position as SK Treasurer is a one-time legacy of yours, so make the most out of it," according to Provincial Director Frederick Gumabol of DILG Romblon during the opening of the program held in Odiongan on Monday. (PJF/PIA Mimaropa - Romblon)
