Senior citizens in Marinduque get anti-flu, anti-pneumonia shots

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) -- MORE than 1,500 senior citizens in the town of Mogpog in Marinduque benefited from the vaccine provided by the Department of Health (DOH).

With the help of medical personnel from the Mogpog Rural Health Unit (RHU), anti-flu and anti-pneumonia vaccines were administered to the town’s elderly residents.

According to Irben Roy N. Cantara, a  nurse at Mogpog RHU, it is important to vaccinate the senior citizens against flu and pneumonia.

"Napakahalaga po na mabakunahan kontra flu at pneumonia ang ating mga kababayan lalong lalo na ang mga senior citizens para hindi sila basta-basta dapuan ng mga bacteria o virus na nagdudulot ng pagkakaroon ng ubo, sipon at kung minsan ay humahantong sa sakit na pulmonya,"

["It is very important to vaccinate our countrymen against flu and pneumonia, especially senior citizens so that they are not exposed to bacteria or viruses that cause coughs, colds and sometimes lead to pneumonia,"] said Cantara.

The Department of Health also reported that the vaccines can help a patient avoid further complications, in the event of contracting COVID-19.

The vaccination drive is part of the department’s broader public health strategy, reinforcing its commitment to preventive healthcare measures. (GATS/PIA MIMAROPA)
