"The count can last for three days based on the consumption demand of the two provinces at 10,430 bags per day," said NFA Capiz information officer Salve Mae Agustin.

The rice consumption was based on individual consumption statistics by the Philippine Statistics Authority discussed during the provincial government and NFA's food security meeting last August 2023.

The agency's buffer stock is on top of the supplies from commercial and household sources which can also help meet the needs of rice sufficiency.

Commodities stored are stocks maintained to ensure food security in times of calamities and emergencies as stated under Republic Act No. 11203 or the Rice Tariffication Law, noted Agustin,  adding that these are then supplied to relief agencies for relief operations to affected families during disasters.

All stocks in storage are well-supervised by technical personnel to ensure good quality and fit for human consumption.

The NFA also continues to buy quality clean and dry palay at its new purchasing price of P23 per kilogram with the additional buffer stocking incentive (BSI) to support the country's food security as embodied in RA 11203.
