DILG urges Kalinga barangays to pass ordinance designating Kalinisan Day

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) -- The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Kalinga enjoined all barangays in the province to push the Barangay at Kalinisan Day (BarKaDa) drive, in line with the campaign for clean environment towards a healthy community.

DILG provincial director Anthony Manolo I. Ballug enjoined all barangay councils to pass an ordinance designating a day per week as BarKaDa Day.

This is in accord with DILG Memorandum Circular 2023-133 enjoining communities to support the nationwide clean-up drive, the “Kalinga at Inisyatiba para sa Malinis na Bayan” (KALINISAN) launched on January 6 as part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Bagong Pilipinas campaign.

Ballug said awareness on health basically starts at the frontline, and the campaign involves villages and communities.

The community clean-up involves cleaning of coastal areas, dredging of waterways, pruning of bushes and branches, eradicating mosquito breeding sites, clearing of public parks, roads and other public areas.

When we have healthy communities, we will enjoy a healthy and productive nation, Ballug said.

All the barangays in the province led by their newly elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials joined the nationwide KALINISAN launching. Cleaning was done in streets, canals, other waterways, public markets, parks, and  schools. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
