QUEZON CITY (PIA) -- Makati City has once again proved that they are one of the champions in innovations in the country in using smart technologies in its conversion of 400 classrooms in its public schools into smart classrooms.

Each smart classroom is set to have an interactive whiteboard, unlimited internet access, and notebook tablets for each of the students.

The interactive whiteboards or the Hybrid Interactive Boards (HIBs) is equipped with Android 11.0 intelligent operating system, built with 5G wireless internet connection with hotspot, and a three-way USB interface support.

The HIBs also has a large storage capacity with 4-core 64-bit CPU, a 4k touchscreen whiteboard with multi-gesture writing features, wireless multiple screening, and remote snapshot.

For convenient video conferencing, it also has 8-array microphones with 10-meter pickup distance.

Charging stations are also being installed in schools to make them readily available to students to ensure uninterrupted use of digital devices during academic activities.

Aside from these features, students will be provided with individual notebook tablets on their desks that are connected to the school’s Learning Management System (LMS) allowing them to directly submit answers for exercises, worksheets, or exams provided by their teachers.

Through the LMS, administrative workload for teachers like assessing and evaluating students will be reduced.

The assessment scores of students can be accurately reported through a smart classroom’s HIB. This approach will save time, decrease paperwork, reduce teachers' administrative burdens, and allow more time for student-centered activities and the development of teaching strategies and innovations in their smart classrooms," Makati City Mayor Abby Binay said in a statement.

Our public-school facilities and equipment are comparable to those in top private schools. We believe our students deserve the best educational services a local government can offer. The dedication of our city's teachers will lead to improved learning outcomes,” she added.

Makati City, known as Metro Manila’s Central Business Districy, is the sole finalist from the Philippines and Asia-Pacific region in the City Award Category of 2023 World Smart Cities Awards. (PIA-NCR)
