Romblon farmers happy with SAAD program

ODIONGAN, Romblon (PIA) -- As a means of bolstering corn production in the town of Ferrol in Romblon, the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) distributed 60 kilograms of sweet corn seeds amounting to P190,500 recently.

The members of the Hinag-oman Lowland and Upland Integrated Farmers Association, Hinag-oman Corn, Cassava and Vegetable Growers Association, and Claro M. Recto Corn and Cassava Farmers Association, all residing in Ferrol, received the corn seeds under the SAAD program.

In addition to the sweet corn seeds, the Claro M. Recto Corn and Cassava Farmers Association also received a multi-cultivator worth P249,500, which they can use to expedite land preparation.

In total, interventions amounting to P440,000 were distributed to the beneficiaries on that day.

"The interventions you have provided are a significant help to our association because, at this time, the cost of seeds and equipment is very high, making it challenging for every farmer to avail. We express our profound gratitude because you are always there, continually assisting us farmers in improving our way of life," according to Florencia Gara, President of the Hinag-oman Corn, Cassava and Vegetable Growers Association.

Aside from the sweet corn seeds, the associations are set to receive additional interventions, such as white corn seeds, aimed at reducing their production costs and increasing their income. (PJF/PIA Mimaropa - Romblon)
