Capiz records 440 ‘drug-cleared’ villages

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- A total of 440 barangays out of the 473 in the province are now “drug-cleared” based on the Capiz Provincial Police Office (CPPO) status update as of January 8.

These barangays were identified through the Philippine National Police's Barangay Drug Clearing Operation Program.

The CPPO had a total of 95 anti-illegal drug-related operations in 2023 and confiscated an overall 1,861.1293 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu worth P12,695,581.64.

The operations resulted in the arrest of 121 drug personalities and the filing of 240 cases.

Capiz police director Col. Jerome Afuyug Jr. said the CPPO will focus more on the campaign against illegal drugs and all kinds of illegal activities in the province this year.

Further, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) provincial officer Maria Melinda Panaguiton said that the towns of Dao and Jamindan are now drug-cleared municipalities in the province.

The Marcos administration had reported the confiscation of around P10.41 billion worth of illegal drugs from January to December 2023 and cleared more than 27,000 barangays nationwide.

Aside from confiscating large volumes of illegal drugs, it has arrested 56,495 suspects after conducting more than 44,000 anti-illegal drug operations. (AGP/PLF/PIA Capiz)
