CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Southern Mindoro District Engineering Office (SMDEO) completed its road preventive maintenance-secondary roads in Calapan south road amounting to P77,459,529.70 in the town of Bongabong.

SMDEO district engineer Annielyn E. Padullo disclosed that the project consisted of an asphalt overlay of a four-lane road, length equivalent to 1,221 lineal meters with a 5-meter actual length adjustment, carriageway width equivalent to 13.40 m minimum and 14.70 m maximum, and shoulder width of 0.60 m minimum and a maximum of 2.90 m.

The project has reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings for a four-lane road area equivalent to 552.8 sq. meters.

As to the project impact, Padullo emphasized that residents of Brgy. Labasan in Bongabong with more than 5,000 population will significantly improve their riding quality and enhance the travel experience of the commuting public as well.

The improved road network brings safety and convenience to the traveling public, thereby promoting economic advantages and opportunities.

Moreover, according to Padullo, the asphalt overlay is an economical road that prolongs service life providing smoother travel, hence bringing lower maintenance charges for private and public utility vehicles. 

The source of funds came from the DPWH’s General Appropriations Act (GAA) FY 2023 with an allotment of P80,285,000 under its contractor, Monolithic Construction and Concrete Products, Inc. (Sixteen Enterprises, JV). (LTC/PIA MIMAROPA/DPWH-SMDO)
