Police Lt. Col. Andrew Rabang, officer-in-charge of the said station, said they have deployed personnel to continuously patrol the activity venues, together with barangay tanods and augmented personnel from the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO).

He added there will be increased police visibility at the carnival area, Aurora Park for the food fair, and at the Laoag Central Elementary School (LCES) for the Agro-Industrial Trade Fair.

“We already released the traffic re-routing scheme for the upcoming opening parade so motorists can avoid extreme traffic,” Rabang said.

During the Civic and Military Parade this Thursday, Feb. 1, the following roads will be closed starting 12:00 noon: the entrance going east at the J.P. Rizal Street corner Hernando St.; the entrance going west at J.P. Rizal St. cor. S Fonacier St; the north entrance at Bonifacio St; and the south entrance at General Segundo Avenue cor. P. Gomez St.

Moreover, all buses and trucks entering Laoag from the towns of San Nicolas and Bacarra are advised to take the Laoag City Bypass Road.

Northbound light vehicles entering the city proper from the Gilbert Bridge will have take a right turn to A. Bonifacio Street, then turn left to M. Nolasco St., then turn left to P. Gomez St., and finally turn right to Gen. Segundo St. Ave. to exit the city.

Meanwhile, southbound light vehicles are advised to turn right at A. Castro Ave., then turn left to Hernando St., and finally turn left at F.R. Castro St. going to the Gilbert Bridge.

Lastly, for eastbound light vehicles, they are advised to turn right to A. Bonifacio St., from the Gilbert Bridge, then turn left to M. Nolasco St., and finally turn right to J.P. Rizal St. to exit the city.

The traffic re-routing scheme for the Grand Parade, Calesa Parade, and Na-Laoag Dance parade, scheduled on Feb. 8, 9, and 10, respectively, will be announced on a later date.

City Mayor Micheal Marcos Keon said they have been working hands-on in the planning of activities for the smooth conduct of programs.

“We’ve working very hard and we created quite a number of committees to oversee the activities, and we are going over everything day by day. We’ve also worked very hard with our finance committee to ensure that we have sufficient funds for the entire duration of the festival,” he said. (JCR/MJTAB/EJFG, PIA Ilocos Norte)
