Liner launches Manila-Pagadian sea freight route

PAGADIAN CITY, (PIA) - Seaborne Shipping Lines has launched its highly anticipated cargo shipping route connecting the port of Manila to the Pagadian wharf.

This inaugural journey is poised to usher in a transformative era in maritime connectivity, with significant implications for Western Mindanao’s economy.

In the late 1990s, Pagadian was a vibrant port city where overnight ferry trips, multi-deck motorboats, and fast crafts originated. The overnight ferry trips thrived, particularly as the bus commute to Zamboanga City was long and dusty.

However, changes occurred as the highways underwent development, with the road to Zamboanga City gradually improving.

The completion of the highways paved the way for a smoother journey, decreasing the need for overnight ferries. The once bustling port of Pagadian experienced a decline in activity.

Now, with the launch of Seaborne Shipping Lines' cargo shipping route, the region is set to witness a revival of maritime trade and connectivity.

Businesses and agri-businesses stand to benefit significantly from this new transport avenue, offering a reliable and swift connection between Manila and Pagadian. This inaugural voyage marks the commencement of a link that promises to spur economic growth and trade expansion in the region.

Mayor Sammy Co expressed his optimism about the positive impact on commerce and regional development. He envisions the new route as a catalyst for business development in the city, providing a seamless and efficient cargo shipping experience.

Engr. Daniel T. Reyes, manager of Mega Lifters Terminal Port, highlighted the significance of the maiden voyage of MV Seaborne Cargo 9. He emphasized that the journey symbolizes an opportunity to strengthen regional connectivity and praised the collaborative efforts of the local chief executive and the Sangguniang Panlungsod members.

"Your unwavering commitment and dedication have paved the way for the realization of your long plan and your mission that we can provide services to the Pagadian City port," said Reyes.

He further asserted that the collaboration between the city government and Seaborne Shipping Lines will not only benefit Pagadian City but will also have a positive impact on the entire Zamboanga Peninsula. (APG/EDT/HTB/PIA9-Zamboanga del Sur)
