Transport workers get over P10-M livelihood aid from DOLE

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has released P10.4 million to fund the livelihood projects of 437 transport workers who were affected by the implementation of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

DOLE 6 information officer John Mandario said the amount was released to beneficiaries through their EnTsuperneur livelihood program in December.

The EnTsuperneur livelihood program is a component of the Stakeholder Support Mechanism of the PUVMP implemented by the DOLE, the Department of Transportation, the Office of Transportation Cooperatives, and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Mandario said an affected transport worker could avail of a minimum of P30,000 worth of inputs or in-kind livelihood assistance under the program.

In the Western Visayas, qualified beneficiaries – either individually or group-managed- were endorsed by the LTFRB and the transport groups.

For the province of Aklan, from the data provided by DOLE 6, the amount benefited 2 transport cooperatives and a transport worker named Nelson Batalla. 

The Malinao Lezo Transport Cooperative with 67 affected workers and Tangalan Transport Cooperative with 52 affected members each received P1 million for their projects on the formation of PUJ Vehicle Parts and Accessories Trading and TTC Tires and Lubricants while Batalla got P30,000 for his hog fattening project.

The same data indicated that in the province of Antique three beneficiaries received P90,000 for their cattle and hog fattening livelihood projects.

On the other hand, two transport workers from Capiz province qualified for the program with their animal-raising projects.

In Guimaras, 29 workers benefited from the program for their animal raising, variety store, and rice retailing projects receiving a total of P568,960.00.

The beneficiaries in Iloilo are the Iloilo City Alliance Operators and Drivers Transport Cooperative (ICAODTC) with 190 affected members and the Santa Barbara-New Lucena Iloilo Transport Cooperative (SBNITC) with 52 affected members. The ICAODTC was granted P5,700,000.00 for their various livelihood projects while SBNITC P1,000,000.00 for their consumer store project.

For Negros Occidental province, the United Negros Transport Cooperative was provided with P1,000,000.00 from the amount for their Rice Retailing Project.

Mandario said there is another P10.55 million allocation from the DOTr to benefit 335 more displaced transport workers in the region.  (AAL/LAF/PIA6-Iloilo)
