88 couples attend pre-marriage counseling

ILIGAN CITY (PIA) -- Eighty-eight couples participated in a pre-marriage counseling seminar that the City Civil Registrar's Office (CCRO) organized in advance of the upcoming mass wedding event on February 23.

“Para ikasal sila, dapat naay seminar mao nang nag-conduct og libre nga seminar para sa tanang couples nga muattend sa mass wedding. Dili sila makasal ug dili sila muattend ani nga seminar [To marry, they should attend a seminar, which is conducted for free for all couples attending the mass wedding. They cannot marry if they do not attend this seminar],” said Lawyer Yussif Don Justin E. Martil, the city civil registrar.

Representatives from the City Health Office, City Social Welfare and Development, and sponsored guests  shared  various topics essential for married life.

There are also 12 remaining slots for couples who are interested in joining the mass wedding. Interested couples should visit the CCRO so they can be properly assisted with their requirements and receive the necessary guidance.

Violeta Molo from Barangay Hinaplanon is happy that she and her husband can get married after 38 years of being together. Tragically, the chapel where they got married in Zamboanga was burned down, resulting in the loss of their marriage documents, which were not endorsed. She shared that they need to acquire a marriage certificate as their son needed it as part of the requirement for getting a loan.

“Nagpasalamat ko’g dako nga naay ingon ani nga makasal mi nga walay bayad. Nalipay ko’g dako [I am very grateful that there is such an opportunity for us to get married without any fees. I am very happy],” she said.

The seminar is just one of the activities lined up for the celebration of the 34th Civil Registration Month. Other activities include mobile registration of births, orientation of the civil registration process to partners, the Feb-ibig Couple Photo Contest, Slogan Contest, and more.
