PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) -- The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is using satellite technology to digitally connect geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas in Palawan.

“It’s a challenge because of the wide area; we can only do so much, and we have to prioritize. At some point, we have to prioritize the geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA),” said DICT regional director Cherly Ortega.

She added that more areas will be included after the initial launch of the BroadBand ng Masa in Palawan.

The majority of sites are located in tourist spots, with the aim of converting those into hubs for digital nomads.

“We assure you that we are starting slowly but surely, and then gradually we will augment,” she said.

Recently, the DICT has activated 37 sites of the BroadBand ng Masa Project in the province of Palawan. (RG/PIA Mimaropa - Palawan)
