New TESDA building to rise in Guimaras

ILOILO CITY -- The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the provincial government of Guimaras recently renewed a deed of usufruct for the utilization of a 600 square meter space in the provincial capitol as the future site of the agency’s provincial office.

The move follows the expiration of the first usufruct agreement granted in November 1998.

Gov. JC Rahman Nava signed the document on behalf of the provincial government while Regional Director Florencio Sunico of TESDA Region 6 and Acting Provincial Director Jonathan Togonon represented the agency.

Nava emphasized the continuous intervetions and support of the province to the TVET sector in the locality.

"For the past year we try to evaluate and try to look for the needs of our constituents, especially the youth of Guimaras, and we're happy today that there's a way to help them in terms of their needs," Nava said.

Among the priorities of the local government are responding to the needs for certification of Senior High School graduates, addressing the skills mismatch of job seekers and improving the operation of the LGU-based training center, and strengthening their capacity as an economic enterprise.

RD Sunico likewise committed that TESDA is consistent with its direction to serve and provide quality skills training for Guimarasnons. The vision compliments the directives of Sec. Suhartu Mangudadatu to bring the skills training across all barangays, provide allocation for scholarship and certification, and push for the implementation of diploma programs in the island province.
