DA consults Abra farmers on agri interventions

BANGUED, Abra (PIA) -- At least 70 farmers and farmer leaders in Abra shared concerns and recommendations on the agriculture situation and needs of the province in a recent Farmers’ Consultation.

Insights from the Department of Agriculture (DA)-led forum will serve as basis for different agricultural programs, activities, and assistance particularly for corn, rice, high-value crops, and livestock.

“This forum was conceptualized by the DA-Cordillera to gather directly from the farmers of Abra their wish list on what particular agriculture needs or intervention they see as the most suitable support that the department can provide,” DA-CAR Regulatory Division Officer-in-charge Leisley Deligen said.

Among the needs raised by farmers during the consultation are assistance for seed, livestock, machinery, and equipment for the different commodity groups.

DA-CAR Field Operations Division Assistant Division Chief Beverly Pekas shared that this participatory governance initiative of the DA aims to ensure that assistance and interventions are relevant and useful to empower farmers in the province.

“Our government now is responsive, and just like us from the regional department, we recognize the sacrifices of our farmers in the region since you are the real heroes because you feed the world,” she said.

The consultation will also roll out in the different CAR  provinces  to consolidate the needs of farmers,  and submit it to the DA national office and local government units for appropriate response. (JDP/JJPM-PIA Abra)
