Ilocos Sur to have therapy center for children with disabilities

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) — Children with disabilities (CWDs) in Ilocos Sur will soon have a Stimulation and Therapeutic Activity Center (STAC) in the town of Cabugao.


According to lawyer Jannah Singson, executive secretary of Ilocos Sur Gov. Jerry Singson, through this project, the provincial government will be able to provide comprehensive rehabilitation services for children with disabilities.


“A significant number of CWDs require special attention, it is the aim of the provincial government of Ilocos Sur headed by the governor, that the STAC will enable the CWDs to overcome mobility challenges through available intervention and rehabilitation programs,” the executive secretary said.

She explained, “It will address lifelong disabilities by conducting special therapy sessions.”


In addition, the STAC will offer physical and social rehabilitation, skills and knowledge transfer, developmental and educational assessment, dental assessment and treatment, educational services, psychosocial support, work placement, information and resource center, and other services designed to facilitate the development of CWDs.


In his message, Singson said, "Today marks another milestone in the province of Ilocos Sur as we realize another remarkable program for our children with special needs. As we leap forward to become an inclusive society, we are aiming to create a community that fosters the welfare of these children."

He further mentioned the establishment of the STAC is consistent with their mission in promoting a healthy and diverse citizenry. 


"This will be a haven for these children where they can improve their skills, learn new things, and develop their holistic well-being; an environment where they feel safe and secured," he said.


Meanwhile, Cabugao Vice Mayor Eddie Boy Cobangbang said, “On behalf of the municipality of Cabugao, we thank the provincial government for their unyielding support to the municipality and the townspeople. We are pleased to accommodate the STAC here, and I am happy to have discussed more projects like this for our people.”


The provincial STAC in Cabugao will cater to all residents of the province, and will be able to accommodate 10-15 CWDs upon its target implementation this year.


This center will be the first of two planned STAC in Ilocos Sur with the other being planned to be located in Santiago town, in the second district of the province. (JCR/MJTAB/ATV, PIA Ilocos Sur)
