Farm to market road helps revive Kalinga town’s coffee industry

TANUDAN, Kalinga(PIA) – A development milestone has been achieved in the municipality of Tanudan in the province of Kalinga as the 6.16-kilometer Banneng-Darulog-Bawac farm-to-market road (FMR) was formally inaugurated.

The project worth P146 million was implemented under the Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) to improve accessibility and help revive Tanudan’s coffee industry.

Since its completion, the road has improved the mobility of residents, bringing them closer to commercial centers and easing their access to government services.

“Habang dakami ti barangay officials, aramiden mi ti kabaelan mi nga mangbantay iti daytoy nga kalsada,” Moises L. Rosario, chairman of Barangay Dupligan, said.

Kalinga Gov. James S. Edduba credits the project’s success to the hard work and collaborative effort of the agencies and offices involved. He expressed the provincial government’s continued commitment in pursuing projects that will boost Kalinga’s agriculture industry.

“The PRDP projects will always be a testament of collaboration. Project implementation becomes an easier task both for the proponent LGU, and for the line agencies like DA when the ownership of  projects is imbibed in the community, and the LGUs are capacitated,” DA regional director Jennilyn Dawayan said.

Kalinga is among the top implementers of the World Bank-funded program, so far, acquiring six infrastructure projects that were implemented with excellent ratings.

“Kalinga has implemented the PRDP with flying colors, hitting around one billion worth of investments, P940 million infrastructures and P22.4 million enterprises,” DA-PRDP North Luzon deputy project director Elma S. Mananes said.

“Among the 22 provinces of North Luzon, fourth ang Kalinga sa may pinakamalaking nakuha out of the P10.4 billion in the cluster. Congratulations po, almost ten percent ang napunta sa Kalinga,” Mananes added.

The turnover ceremony was held in Dupligan, Tanudan and graced by DA officials, local government officials and employees, Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang, among others. (JDP/IOS-PIA Kalinga)
