Panpacific University summit equips students with leadership, info discernment skills

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Feb. 27 (PIA) – Students at Panpacific University in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan gained valuable insights on leadership and responsible information consumption during the university's Leaders' Summit held on February 21 and 22.
 
The event, held as part of the university's founding anniversary celebrations, featured prominent speakers who addressed the institution's core values of "Truth," "Pioneer," "Compassion," and "Service."
 
Keynote speaker Jennilyne Role, regional director of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)- Region 1, highlighted the importance of truth and transparency in government communication, especially in the age of rampant misinformation and disinformation.
 
Director Role emphasized the need for critical thinking and fact-checking to combat these issues and build trust with the public.
 
"Transparency is key," she stressed.
 
She added, "All truths must be made public because, ultimately, we are building trust and confidence. The way information is conveyed is also crucial."

Psychology student Jed Berdos challenged all attendees at the summit to become active truth-seekers and wield critical thinking as a weapon against misinformation.
 
“I hope that everyone will be able to incorporate all the learnings as sincerely as possible,” she added.
 
Other speakers included Dr. Nicamil Sanchez, chief executive officer of the Philippine Consortium Inc., who discussed the role of artificial intelligence in line with the university's "Pioneer" value.
 
On the second day, Dr. Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon, president of Ifugao State University, and Lieutenant Colonel Rasmos Roel Galagnara, commanding officer of the Philippine Army’s 522nd Engineer Construction Battalion, shared their perspectives on "Compassion" and "Service," respectively.
 
Meanwhile, Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go served as the guest of honor and speaker on the second day, capping off the event with an inspiring message to the young leaders in attendance.
 
The Leaders' Summit fostered a platform for dialogue and reflection on crucial leadership qualities and responsible citizenship in today's world. (JCR/AMB/REB/PIA Region 1)
