Zambo Norte police officers, local media undertake journalism refresher seminar

DAPITAN CITY (PIA) – Aiming to reinforce the maintenance of the highest standards of professionalism, accuracy, and impartiality among its members, the Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office (ZNPPO) Press Corps conducted a journalism Refresher Seminar on February 23 at Dapitan City.

Anchored on the theme “Navigating the Evolving Landscape of Journalism”, the seminar also aimed to provide valuable insights into the dynamic field of journalism.

In her welcome message, ZNPPO Press Corp President Mishel J. Bala emphasized the importance of enhancing the skills in collaboration between police officers and local media practitioners, attended by a total of 70 participants, with 28 Police Community Relations (PCR), 27 Operations, and 15 Press Corps officers and members.

“In the face of evolving challenges and unprecedented changes in the media landscape, our commitment to ethical journalism remains unwavering,” she said.

“Let us strive to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accuracy, and impartiality, always mindful of the power and privilege entrusted to us."

Philippine Information Agency (PIA) IX Zamboanga del Norte Information Center Manager, Emmanuel D. Taghoy gave a lecture on Social Media Handling and Crisis Communications wherein he urged participants not to underestimate the use and reach of social media in the field of journalism and communications. 

Other distinguished guests included Eduardo C. Mira, program head of Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) Dipolog’s Journalism Program, who discussed News Writing and Specialized Beat Reporting, and Atty. Joseph Lester S. Patay on the Laws of Libel.

The initiative comes at a crucial time where media plays a vital role in shaping public trust in terms of disseminating information highlighting the responsibility in upholding the principles of ethical journalism in the service of the community. (NBE/EDT/PJF/JAP-OJT/PIA9-Zamboanga del Norte)
