QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- Ilabas ang mga barya!

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has announced that since its launch in June last year, its Coin Deposit Machines (CoDM) have collected over P500 million worth of coins in various denominations.

During the recent CoDM Project Milestone and Retailer Appreciation held in Robinsons Metro East in Pasig City, BSP Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat and Managing Director Rosabel B. Guerrero recognized its partner Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc. president and chief executive officer Robina Gokongwei-Pe and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.

Monetary Board (MB) Member Benjamin E. Diokno looks on as Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto tries the coin deposit machine.

The BSP has installed 25 CoDMs in Metro Manila and nearby cities.

Since June 2023, it has collected more than P510 million worth of coins from 134,188 transactions as of February 21, 2024.

CoDMs allow people to conveniently deposit their coins which will be credited to their GCash or Maya electronic wallet accounts or converted into shopping vouchers.

The machine also supports the BSP’s Coin Recirculation Program which aims to bring idle coins back in circulation.

The coin machine accepts all denominations [i.e., one peso (piso), 5 pesos, 10 pesos, 20 pesos] of the BSP Coin Series and the New Generation Currency Coin Series.

In using the machines, the BSP reminds customers that coins to be deposited must not be taped or bundled; must not come with other objects like buttons, magnets, nails, tokens, screws, or washers; and are gently placed in the machine’s coin slot.

The BSP also advises customers to ensure that their e-wallet accounts are valid, active, and within the prescribed transaction limits.

The coin machines can be found at Robinsons Place Metro East, Pasig City; Robinsons Place Novaliches, Quezon City (QC); Robinsons Place Antipolo, Rizal; Robinsons Place Magnolia, in Quezon City; Robinsons Place Ermita, Manila; Robinsons Place Galleria, Ortigas; Festival Mall, Muntinlupa City; SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City; SM City Grand Central, Caloocan; SM City Marilao, Bulacan; SM City Taytay, Rizal; SM Hypermarket FTI, Taguig City; SM Southmall, Las Piñas City; SM City Sucat, Parañaque; SM City Calamba; SM City Marikina; SM City San Mateo, Rizal; SM City Valenzuela; SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City; SM City North EDSA, QC; SM City Fairview, QC; SM City San Lazaro, Manila; SM City Bicutan, Parañaque; and SM City Bacoor, Cavite.
