CFO to empower La Union communities with migration education program

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Feb. 28 (PIA) – The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) is bringing its community education program to La Union from March 4-8, focusing on San Fernando City and Bauang municipality.

This initiative aims to empower communities and equip aspiring migrants with the knowledge to make informed decisions regarding overseas settlement.

It also fosters community engagement and awareness of crucial migration-related topics.

"This program will educate barangay officials on various aspects of migration, including intermarriage, existing government policies, and programs against illegal recruitment, documentation fraud, and human trafficking," shared CFO Chairperson, Secretary Romulo Arugay.

The CFO will conduct various activities, including public assemblies, consultations, interactions with community leaders and members, school symposia, and radio interviews, to ensure comprehensive outreach.

Established on June 16, 1980, through Batas Pambansa 79, CFO is an agency of the Philippine government under the Office of the President tasked to promote and uphold the interests, rights and welfare of overseas Filipinos and strengthen their ties to their homeland.

The CFO registers and provides pre-departure orientation seminars to emigrants.

It also promotes the transfer of technology as well as material and financial contributions from overseas for development projects in underserved communities all over the Philippines.

It also provides younger generations of Filipinos overseas with opportunities to learn Philippine history and culture. (JCR/AMB/PIA Region 1)
