Ilocos Region police remain vigilant despite reported absence of gambling dens

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Feb. 28 (PIA) – The Police Regional Office 1 (PRO 1) continues its efforts to combat illegal gambling despite reports suggesting its absence in the Ilocos Region.

PRO 1 Regional Director, Police Brigadier General Lou Evangelista, acknowledges reports from provincial directors stating the absence of established gambling dens, such as "drop ball" and "peryahan" (funfair), in their jurisdictions.

Local authorities, including police chiefs, local officials, and community leaders, have bolstered these claims by issuing certifications attesting to the lack of monitored illegal gambling activities in their areas.

Additionally, PRO 1 conducted inspections of amusement parks and carnivals, ensuring their legality and adherence to local permits issued for town fiestas.

Despite these reports, PRO 1 remains vigilant.

“Hindi namin hahayaang mangibabaw ang mga ilegal na gawain lalong lalo na ang pasugalan at droga,” he declared.

(We won't allow illegal activities, especially gambling and drugs, to prevail in our region.)

He reiterates their commitment to maintaining peace and order through proactive measures and thorough validations.

PRO 1's efforts are embedded in its seven-point agenda, SECURED, which outlines their strategic approach to crime prevention:

S - Strategic approach in crime prevention and solution activities
E - Engaging the community for safer neighborhood
C - Compassion for Philippine National Police personnel
U - Upholding the rule of law and justice while implementing effective law enforcement
R - Robust Quad Concept in the execution of police operation
E - Enhancing public safety and internal security
D - Digital transformation for efficient policing

This strategic approach has yielded results, with PRO 1 apprehending 355 individuals suspected of involvement in illegal card games, video carrera, cara y cruz, and other similar activities. (JCR/AMB/PIA Region 1)
