Palawan farmers graduated from DA's corn production training

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) -- Up to 70 farmers graduated from the 16 weeks of training at the Farmers Field School on Corn Production in Rizal, Palawan last February 29, 2024.

The farmers were trained in seed selection, corn morphology, land preparation, planting, integrated nutrient management, fertilizers computation, weeds management, integrated pest management, harvesting operation, drying and storing operation, and crop cutting.

The farmers go directly to hands-on activities to immediately apply what they have learned.

Coinciding with the graduation ceremony was the inauguration of the hybrid corn derby demonstration farm by seed companies like Asian Hybrid Seed Technology Inc, Corteva Agri-science Philippines Inc, Bioseed Research Philippines Inc., Bayer Philippines, Syngenta Philippines Inc. and Cornworld Breeding System Corporation.

Biofertilizer companies like Gemini Agri Farm Solution Corp., Bioprime Agri Industries Inc., Enviro Scope Synergy Inc., JJEA Agriventures, and Ada Manufacturing also joined the inauguration ceremony.

The goal of the hybrid corn derby is to introduce to the farmers the latest technologies and methods in corn production, as well as the help of biofertilizers in improving the quality of their corn.

This activity was successful with the cooperation of the Department of Agriculture (DA)-Mimaropa Corn Program headed by the regional corn coordinator Engr. Franz Gerwen Cardano, Provincial Agriculture Office represented by Jerry Sotabinto, and Municipal Agriculture Office of Rizal led by Peter Bravante. (OCJ/PIA MIMAROPA - Palawan)
