La Union marks 174th Founding Anniversary with love, unity

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Mar. 2 (PIA) – The province of La Union commemorates its 174th founding anniversary, with the theme: "174 Years of Celebrating Love, Celebrating Unity” on Mar. 2
 
Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David, alongside Vice Governor Mario Ortega, provincial board members, city/municipal mayors, and other local officials, spearheaded the ceremonial flag-raising at the Provincial Capitol on Saturday morning.
 
In her anniversary message, David reminisced how the province had thrived over the years with love and unity among and between its people as its greatest weapon.
 
“We are not going anywhere but up because of the love and unity that each of you has demonstrated over the years,” David said.
 
A visual journey through La Union's achievements unfolded during the event.
 
Highlighting milestones included San Fernando's cityhood in 1998, the prestigious Pamana ng Lahi Award in 2011, recognitions like Best Performing Province in the Philippines in 2011 and National Rice Achiever in 2013, the Seal of Good Local Governance in 2016 and 2018, and the Surfing Break Hall of Fame recognition for Best Tourism Event in the Philippines in 2017.
 
The celebration showcased various projects, programs, and accomplishments under Governor David's results-oriented and inclusive leadership.
 
Governor David pledged unwavering commitment to propel La Union to even greater heights.
 
She urged the community to keep their hearts brimming with love and remain united.
 
“Our kaprobinsyaans deserve nothing but the best,” she said.
 
She added, “We must work together as one strong province inspired and driven by a shared vision to uplift the lives of each and every citizen of our beloved La Union.”
 
The ceremony culminated in the raising of flags representing La Union's local government units, accompanied by the La Union Hymn.
 
The Governor emphasized the hymn's significance, calling it both a song and a prayer for the province's continued success.
 
La Union currently boasts a population of around 800,000 citizens residing in over 200,000 households across its 576 barangays within its 20 municipalities.  (JCR/AMB/CGCC, PIA Region 1)
