8 LGUs in Capiz reap ‘Gawad Kalasag’ Seal of Excellence

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- Eight local government units in the province together with the Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) were conferred with this year’s 23rd Gawad Kalasag or KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan Seal and Special Awards for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Humanitarian Assistance. 

The town of Panitan solely received the Beyond Compliant Seal with a 2.5 to 3.0 score, setting an exemplary standard in the province, while the municipalities of Dumarao, Dumalag, Ivisan, Maayon, Mambusao, President Roxas, Jamindan, and Tapaz received the Fully Compliant Seal.  

Provincial administrator Arthur John Biñas, on behalf of Gov. Fredenil Castro, welcomed the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) and the participants and other distinguished guests.

In his message, he expressed his gratitude to the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) and participating LGUs for their efforts in building a safer community. 

“Let us come together to celebrate the accomplishment of our awardees. Your contributions are truly appreciated. Congratulations!," Biñas added. 

RDRRMC chairperson and OCD Regional Director Raul E. Fernandez also emphasized the importance of becoming fully, if not beyond compliant, in the country’s quest to build resilient communities. 

“In times of disasters, we will not only survive but we must thrive,” Fernandez stated. 

The OCD also awarded the PDRRMO with a Gawad Kalasag  Fully Compliant Seal for garnering a 1.81-scored rating. 

The Gawad KALASAG, organized by the Office of Civil Defense- National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), is an annual awarding ceremony for significant initiatives in the promotion and commitment in building a safe and risk-resilient community. (AGP/PLF/PIA Capiz)
