DA-FTI  looks into establishing cold storage facility in Ifugao

LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA)-- The Department of Agriculture (DA) through the Food Terminal Incorporated (FTI) and Governor Jerry Dalipog recently conducted a dialogue with agriculture stakeholders to gather essential data for feasibility studies for the proposed cold storage and trading facility in the province to  enhance agricultural infrastructure and foster food security.

The FTI team  led by Vice President for Operations Emmanuel Bagui said that the construction of the cold storage facility aligns with their mandate to provide accessible and modern infrastructure for agricultural producers to connect with consumers, and ensure price stability.

Provincial Agriculturist Domingo Mariano and High-Value Crops coordinator Benjamin Lunag Jr.  presented the Ifugao provincial government’s  request for the establishment of a cold storage facility in the province in a meeting with DA officials  at the Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center  last January.

“We will definitely create a good agreement para mapadali yung negosyo, mapromote rin yung produce niyo, at the same time,  mastabilize ung pricing ng lahat ng mga product na nanggagaling dito,” said Bagui.

By addressing critical infrastructure gaps and promoting efficient marketing channels, it sets the stage for sustainable agricultural development and contributes to the realization of long-term food security goals, according to the FTI

The proposed cold storage would be located at Cadel, Poblacion South in Lagawe, Ifugao.

Dalipog also shared ongoing efforts to support local farmers, and address the issue of vegetable and farm produce wastage.

The trading post  is ongoing construction at Cadel, Poblacion South, which is expected to be completed within the year.

He also  mentioned  the  province's intention to establish a federation for farmers, fostering unity among them and enabling better coordination to meet demand, especially when partnering with big companies.

Meanwhile, stakeholders had the opportunity to express and raise their issues and concerns regarding agriculture. Bagui assured that these matters will  be duly conveyed to the right offices. (JDP/FBR- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
