Apayao, DepEd prepare for 2024 CARAA meet

DepEd-CAR officials lead by Regional Director Estela P. Leon-Cariño presents the preparation for the CARAA meet 2024 in Apayao this April

LUNA, Apayao(PIA) -- Preparations are underway for the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association Meet(CARAA),which will be hosted by the province of Apayao for the third time. 


Department of Education-Cordillera officials led by Regional Director Estela P. Leon-Cariño and Assistant Regional Director Ronald Castillo,  with Apayao officials led by Congresswoman Eleanor Bulut-Begtang and Provincial Administrator Edmar Pascua,  presented the plans and preparations being done for the CARAA 2024 during the recent “Kapihan sa DepEd-CAR” in Apayao.


The provincial officials assured readiness for the regional meet scheduled from April 15 to 19, which they will be hosting for the third time. The first was in 2013, and the second was in 2019.


Pascua said that the provincial government has earmarked P10 million for the CARAA hosting to augment the P3 million budget of the DepEd.

DepEd-CAR Regional Sports Coordinator Edgar Madlaing said that this year’s CARAA meet is expected to gather more than 6,000 delegates from all over the region,  which is considered as the largest in the history of the regional meet. The delegates are composed of athletes from elementary and high schools, coaches, trainers, technical officials, other DepEd teaching and non-teaching personnel from regional office and the different division offices.


Aside from the CARAA delegates, the province also expects  additional visitors to include family members of athletes, and other  guests and visitors. 


Among the preparations being done to ensure the success of the CARAA are the preparation of venues, billeting and accommodations, and other logistical arrangements to provide athletes and spectators with a seamless experience. 


The provincial and municipal local government units are also preparing the tourism destinations which can be visited by the CARAA delegates, and other guests and visitors.


Begtang expressed gratitude to the DepEd-CAR for granting the hosting of the CARAA2024 in the province, and  and assured her full support to the agency as well as the biggest sporting event in the region.


She shared that sports and youth development is among the priority programs in the province  aimed at promoting, and safeguarding the welfare of children and the youth,  which she supports in terms of legislation and funding.


Schools division  superintendents and  their assistants  from the different provinces also declared their commitment,and support to the province of Apayao as they assured their  readiness for the CARAA 2024.(JDP/RMC- PIA CAR


Apayao Congresswoman Eleanor Bulut-Begtang assures her support to the DepEd, and 2024 CARAA.

The Kapihan forum was also participated by the other officials from the regional and division offices, regional tournament managers of the different sporting events, sports coordinators, Apayao Provincial Police Office and the members of the government and private media practitioners from Baguio City and Apayao.
