BFP La Union calls for vigilance, preparedness as Fire Prevention Month begins

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) -- The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in this city urges the public to be vigilant and prepared as Fire Prevention Month officially began on March 2.

Anchored on the theme “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi Ka Nag-iisa," the annual campaign program aims to raise awareness on the dangers of fires, promote proactive steps that prevent the occurrence of fires, and  ensure disaster-resilient communities.

“Sa ganitong panahon ay dumadami ang fire incidents, so napakahalaga ng observance na ito para mapuksa o mapababa ang fire incident dito sa ating lugar,” FCInsp. Jun Eland Wanawan, San Fernando City fire marshal, said.

He stated that the campaign serves as a wake-up call following the devastating fire at the city's public market on January 11.

To date, La Union has logged 17 structural and residential fire incidents in first two months this year.

The month-long campaign started with a motorcade and simultaneous blowing of horns of each municipal fire station. It will also feature various activities such as nationwide simultaneous fire drills, Kaisa Partnership Campaign, fire fighter tournaments, among others which will be further announced.
