Road project to aid coffee industry in Nueva Vizcaya underway

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) -- A farm-to-market road project leading to the coffee plantations in the upland town of Ambaguio, Nueva Vizcaya is underway.

Officials of the Department of Agriculture (DA) recently visited the 10.6-kilometer Ammoweg-Camandag road development project, along with municipal officials to evaluate the progress of its implementation. The construction phase is now at 62 percent.

DA Regional Director Mary Rose Aquino said the Ammoweg-Camandag FMR is funded with P203.8 million under the DA’s Philippine Rural Development Project.

“This project underwent the sixth progress billing after a team from DA jointly inspected it,” she said.

Aquino said the FMR project aims to support upland farmers in Ambaguio, especially the coffee industry in Barangays Camandag and Ammoweg. Coffee is one of the major products of Ambaguio town, aside from upland vegetables.

She said the improved road conditions will reduce transportation expenses and time among farmers, which will boost the coffee industry in the town, the local tourism potential, and help improve the local economy.

Local officials also said the completion of the Camandag-Ammoweg FMR will promote the stability of peace and order as the road serves as an alternate route to Mt. Pulag in Benguet.
