Immigration Commissioner urges citizens to collaborate for national security

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (PIA) - Immigration Commissioner Norman G. Tansingco, in his message, highlighted the pivotal role the agency plays in securing the borders of the country. He underscored the collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, emphasizing that this responsibility extends beyond the capabilities of the immigration agency alone.

Tansingco also called upon citizens to participate in bolstering national security. He urged individuals to report any perceived threats to the nation or community.

“Citizens can also help us. Kayo diyan na may makikita (If you see something) that you think is a threat to national security, a threat to our community, especially here on the island of Mindanao, we can collaborate. You can cooperate not only for our country but also for our families,” Tansingco said.

With this, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) has opened its 67th field office in Pagadian City.

BI aims to establish 75 field offices across the country this year. Tansingco emphasized that this expansion is not just a reaction to a rise in foreign presence but is strategically chosen based on locations that support their mission.

“Hindi dahil marami ng foreigners kaya nagbubukas kami ng opisina (It is not because there are many foreigners that we are opening an office), but because that place is the strategic place for us to help in our mission to guard our borders,” he said.

Tansingco believes that the collaboration of the said office with the local government unit (LGU) strengthens the quality of services as it enhances convenience and efficiency by making the service more accessible to the public.

Mayor Sammy Co expressed optimism that the opening of the field office in the city could contribute positively to Pagadian’s local economy.

The BI-Pagadian Field Office, located on the fourth floor of the City Commercial Center (C3 Mall) beside the City Civil Registrar’s Office, offers various programs and services, including visa applications and tourist visa extensions.
