1st Tulno Festival showcases locally produced vegetables in Brooke’s Point

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) -- The Barangay Imulnod in the municipality of Brooke’s Point celebrated the first Tulno Festival in conjunction with their 35th Founding Anniversary last March 8, 2024.

‘Tulno’ is a Palaw’an word which means vegetables.

This festival was organized by the Provincial Agriculture Office in partnership with the Municipal Agriculture Office of the said municipality to showcase the locally produced vegetables of the Imulnod Vegetables Farmers Association and to raise the standard of living of farmers and fishermen in the province.

Imulnod Vegetables Farmers Association is composed of farmers from Sitios Tabud, Kabulnuka, Karusuan, Tatandeya, Kabangaan at Matiyaga who are also beneficiaries of Food Always in the Home (FAITH) Program of the Provincial Government of Palawan.

Some of the locally produced vegetables featured in this festival are carrots, sayote, cabbage, and other highland vegetables that can be seen only in cold areas in the Philippines such as Mountain Province.

According to the provincial agriculturist office, Barangay Imulnod is currently the major producer of highland vegetables in the province that has great potential to supply their produce to different parts of Palawan.

Coinciding the festival, the agri office turned over agricultural inputs for the said association, which includes plastic drums, sprinklers, pick mattocks, garden hoe, hole digger, rake, UV plastic film, hose, assorted vegetable seeds, and others.

Fertilizer inputs were also distributed to farmer associations that are beneficiaries of the provincial government's Corn and Rice Enhancement for Sufficiency (CARES) Program while materials were also provided to fishermen who are beneficiaries of the Fish Catch and Aquaculture Enhancement Program.
