Provincial gov’t set to launch career, voters’ education modules

ILOILO CITY (PIA) – The Iloilo Provincial government is set to launch its modules for career guidance and voters’ education in the province, noting that these manuals will guide the students in choosing the right career and will boost their electoral awareness.

In a press conference on Feb. 22, Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. revealed that they are already about to finish the modules developed together with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the University of the Philippines (UP), which is part of the province’s “Bulig Eskwela Sang Probinsya” (BES Probins) Program.

Defensor previously said that the career guidance module would adopt a localized approach to Republic Act 11206, or the Career Guidance and Counseling Act, which he authored during his stint in Congress.

The governor stressed that the module would bridge the gap between the graduates and the demand of the government and the industry, noting that human resources should be able to answer the demands of the economy.

“It is relevant because it will bridge the gap between the product of our educational system and the human resource needs of the economy and the industry. The product of our educational system should answer the needs of the economy, that’s why our human resource is very important,” Defensor said.

The manuals will be composed of a guide for secondary students in making career decisions based on the National Career Assessment Examination (NCAA);

the National and Local Development Plans for them to know the direction of the government and the economy; and the country’s labor requirement.

Meanwhile, Defensor emphasized that the voters’ education module would guide them in choosing the right leaders in the community who will be among the main drivers of the economy.

He clarified that the module would not tell electorates whom to vote for or what party to choose, but it would serve as a guide on the responsibilities of elective positions from the president down to the lowest elective posts.

“This is because we want to create an electorate that participates intelligently in our democratic processes. That is why it is very important that we have voter education programs in all our secondary schools,” Defensor said. (AAL/JNH/PIA Iloilo)
