Young farmers encouraged to avail of agri exchange programs

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga(PIA) -- The city government of Tabuk recognized a young farmer who recently completed an 11-month training in Japan, and  encourages  other youth to grab opportunities for international exchange programs to advance their skills particularly in agriculture to help in ensuring food security in the country.

Julius M. Bangibang, 4-H Club member of Barangay Cudal in Tabuk, was recognized for completing a training program at Katsurashima, Nakagawa-Mura, Kami-Ina-Gun, Nagano in Japan  from  April 13, 2023 to February 23, 2024. He  received P15,000 cash incentive from the city local government unit  plus certificates of recognition from  the Department of Agriculture,  and the Government of Japan.

The 25 year-old Bangibang focused on improved fruit production technology. But he also learned farming techniques to produce rice and vegetables of good quality, make organic fertilizers, among others.

Bangibang is grateful  for the  opportunity given him to learn new knowledge, skills, and attitude, and be exposed to new farming systems to enhance his  becoming an agricultural entrepreneur.

City agriculture officer Lim Docyugen said the overseas agricultural training program is under the DA - LGU Young Farmer Exchange Program, in partnership with  foreign government  countries. DA- Agricultural Training Institute(ATI) is the lead implementor of this program.

Docyugen is encouraging other youth farmers in Tabuk to apply for agricultural training program, as he assures support from the city LGU.

There are two Tabuk 4-H Club members currently undergoing the pre-departure orientation at the DA-ATI  central office for a training  program in Taiwan this year. (JDP/LL-PIA Kalinga)
